Seventeen students were inducted into the Attales Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society during a ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 30 before parents, teachers and friends.

The event was the culmination of an extensive application process that included essay writing, letters of recommendation from teachers, and both extracurricular and academic exceptionalism. A faculty committee, convened by Attales NJHS adviser Sherri Liepe, pored over the applications to determine this year's inductees.

Current NJHS members oversaw the ceremony.  Jack Burns gave the welcome address, Kieran McNulty recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and NJSH Secretary Jadyn Clinkscale performed the national anthem on the flute. Additionally, Jadyn Clinkscale, Alexandra Moran, Farhan Alam, Madison Cruz and NJHS Treasurer Carson Neal each spoke about the five standards of NJHS.

During the ceremony, the students - all seventh-graders - took a pledge - led by NJHS Vice President Michael Marcyzk - to uphold the standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship, all of which they have displayed thus far in their Attales career.

Then, NJHS President Grace Marczyk announced the names of the students as her fellow members handed out certificates and stoles to each inductee.

The ceremony included remarks from Superintendent Dr. Daniel J. Dooley, as well as Absecon Board of Education member Raquel Law and Absecon City Councilman Steve Light. Principal Kevin Burns concluded the ceremony and announced the new class of NJHS members to the audience.

Following the ceremony, families were invited for refreshments and to take photos.
